TiniVault is a lightweight, self-hosted family asset management system built on one simple idea: everything is an item. Whether it's a washing machine, a warranty PDF, a receipt, or an insurance policy โ€” it's all an item that you can:

  • Tag for easy categorisation (e.g., #appliances, #warranty, #documents)
  • Attach files โ€” PDFs, photos, scanned documents
  • Add custom fields โ€” text, numbers, dates, monetary amounts, yes/no toggles, item links, and file attachments
  • Link to related items โ€” connect a washing machine to its warranty document
  • Search and filter to find anything instantly

This flexible approach means TiniVault fits the way your family actually thinks โ€” no rigid categories, no one-size-fits-all structure.

Quick Start โ€‹

Getting up and running takes just a few minutes. First, deploy TiniVault on your own server using Docker:

docker compose up -d

See the Self-Hosting guide for the full docker-compose.yml and environment setup.

Once running:

  1. Open TiniVault at your server's address (e.g., http://your-server:3000)
  2. Log in with your username and password
    (Default credentials: admin / admin โ€” please change these immediately!)
  3. Change your password โ€” click your name in the top-right corner โ†’ Change Password
  4. Create your first item โ€” click the + button to open the New Item dialog
  5. Add tags to organise your items (e.g., create a #warranty tag)
  6. Use search to find items โ€” the search bar is always available at the top

First-time setup

Before adding items, consider setting up a few tags (like #documents, #appliances) and templates (like "Appliance" with warranty fields). This makes creating items much faster!
